Divisions We Have Caused

There is no doubt that the "Christian world" is falling further and further away from the Word of God as a basis of doctrine to live by.  Charismania is growing just as fast as we are falling away.  But I fear that with our desire to be separate from we have created division in God's Word where there should not be.  We have fallen in love with the sounds of deep doctrine and have therefore made these statements true of ourselves:

1 Cor 1:21-23
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
(KJV)

Rom 16:17-18
17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
(KJV)

I don't think this is a planned attack on God's people, but rather has snowballed into what we see today, where people think they are doing the will of God, but are rather causing division as we see Paul mention to the Corrinthians here:

1 Cor 1:11-13
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
(KJV)

I believe that these believers also thought they were doing the will of God.  But it is clear that Paul is admonishing them for their actions here.  If you are a "Hyper-dispensationalist" and believe that Paul is your ONLY apostle, this reference in 1 Cor1 should make you wonder if you are doing the right thing.  Verse twelve above shows us that, at the time 1 Corrinthians was penned, the Corrinthians could follow: Paul, Apollos, Cephas or the doctrine of Christ and be in the will of God.  Just something to keep in mind while reading the scriptures. smilie
